- Electromagnetics:Fundamental background information.,
- Electric and magnetic fields, waves,and dielectrics,Coordinate systems, and the divergence and Stokes' theorems.,
- Faraday's law and the Maxwell-Ampere law., Maxwell's equations, time-harmonic form, Plane wave propagation, general relationship between E and H.,
- Polarization, propagation in a lossy medium, propagation of electromagnetic power.
- Characteristics of antenna patterns.
- Radiometry: Passive microwave remote sensing, Polarized radiation, coherence, radiometry vs. radar. Fundamental radiometric units, source of brightness, and the Planck law.
- Irradiance, and absorptivity, emissivity,reflectivity, transmissivity. adiative transfer, simple examples, and atmospheric structure and composition.
